Richard E. Collins, M.D., is nationally known and
recognized as “The Cooking Cardiologist.” Dr. Collins joined South
Denver Cardiology Associates in 2003. He received his medical degree
from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and obtained his cardiovascular
training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Dr. Collins is a Fellow
in the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of
Cardiology, and served in the U.S. Navy as a physician to the U.S.
Congress. Dr. Collins is board certified in cardiology and internal
medicine. For the past 25 years, he has served as the principal founder
of the Alegent Health Heart Institute in Omaha, Neb. As a leading
authority and spokesperson in preventive medicine, Dr. Collins has been
quoted in numerous publications, appeared on various national and local
television and radio news programs, and has been the guest speaker at
national seminars. He has also performed more than 500 cooking
demonstrations across the country, and has written many medical articles
promoting the benefits of a heart healthy lifestyle.
