Efficacy and Safety of HEP-40™, a New Novel Ingredient for Managing
Hypercholesterolemia
Location: Lido 3001
HEP-40™ is a low molecular weight chitosan produced using a patented
hydrolysis process. This unique, short-chain chitosan has a molecular weight of
40,000 daltons. The novel, homogeneous structure provides HEP-40 with superior
fatty acid binding ability relative to chitosan, further restricting lipid
absorption in the GI tract. The LDL lowering properties and safety of HEP-40
were demonstrated in a 200 patient randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled
study. The multi-center clinical trial demonstrated efficacy of four different
dosing regimens for HEP-40 in treating patients with predominantly low
cardiovascular risk. HEP-40’s clinical efficacy and safety profile will be
presented.

Synergy Between Cosmeceuticals and Dietary Supplements
Location: Lido 3001
A radiant appearance is essentially a reflection of optimal health and wellbeing. Cosmetic products no longer seek to merely cover up signs of aging. The root causes of skin, hair and nail damage are addressed externally with cosmeceuticals and internally with nutritional interventions. The process of aging gradually diminishes both the ability of skin and the digestive tract to metabolize nutrients needed to optimally and sufficiently nourish the body. Therefore, delivering functional ingredients including antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, probiotics, digestive aids, detoxicants, cleansers, weight management support agents and bioavailability enhancers through the diet as “nutricosmetics”, and externally as topical preparations, offers comprehensive support to healthy aging. The presentation will feature examples of innovative, clinically validated ingredients in this context.

Bioavailable Turmeric, a Complete Anti-Inflammatory
Location: Lido 3001
Turmeric remains the major spice in Ayurveda, traditionally used to treat
billary disorders, anoxia, hepatic disorders and sinusitis. But the main
uniqueness of curcumin is its complete anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin
not only blocks the COX pathway, but also other inflammatory mediators. Curcumin’s
anti-TNF action, without inhibiting TNF but eliminating the negative effects of
conventional anti-TNF therapy, makes it a complete and safe remedy for
arthritis. Curcumin’s up-regulated MKP-5 may also contribute in suppressing
prostatic inflammation. Concerns about curcumin’s bioavailability have been
resolved by newly formulated BCM-95®.
