Supplements or Functional Foods: Riding the Wave of Consumer Movement in
Building a Successful Company and Brand
Is the line between supplements and functional foods blurring? What
differentiates these categories? Is it format or function, and is the difference
important to consumers? Launching a new functional food or dietary supplement into the mainstream
market requires substantial investment. Companies need to differentiate products so manufacturers, distributors and
consumers understand what makes them unique and beneficial. This panel will
explore the convergence of the supplement and functional food sectors, and how
companies can effectively build and position their product in this increasingly
confused space.

Skin Effects of Natural L-Hydroxyproline with Topical & Oral
Administration
L-hydroxyproline is an endogenous amino acid that is a primary constituent of
collagen (approximately 10 to 15 percent), connective tissues and bones. It
plays an important role in the formation and stabilization of collagen’s
triple-helix structure. Recent studies have shown when topically applied, L-hydroxyproline can
moisturize skin from within, activate cell turnover, reduce fine lines and
wrinkles, and enhance skin elasticity. This presentation will review a patented
combination of hyaluronic acid, L-hydroxyproline and vitamin C. In addition to
studies on topical use, new findings exploring oral supplementation of
L-hydroxyproline will be reviewed, providing the cosmetic, food and dietary
supplements industries with new tools to help consumers maintain youthful skin.
