Protexx HP™: Sterilization Comes Clean
For decades, treating raw botanicals with ethylene oxide and
gamma irradiation has been the accepted method of sterilization. BI
Nutraceuticals has found a better solution, an innovative sanitization
technology based on super-heated dry steam, called Protexx™. Protexx™ steam
was determined to be the best choice and viewed as optimum for its positive
effect in micro reduction and in making the claim of “healthy and natural
foods.” Protexx™ steam, combined with BI’s Identilok® process, stringent
quality control and heavy metals and pesticide testing delivers unadulterated
herbal powders that are not irradiated or chemically treated.

New Research on PomElla®: Absorption, Metabolism, and
Antioxidant Effects
The intake of antioxidant polyphenolics has been demonstrated
to have health promoting and disease preventive effects. The pomegranate (Punica
granatum L.), which is rich in several polyphenolics,
has been used for centuries in ancient cultures for its medicinal purposes.
While
the consumer’s knowledge of antioxidants has grown, so has their concern of
which pomegranate extracts are truly bioactive and can offer tangible health
benefits. This presentation will address the need for standardized antioxidant
dietary supplements and discuss the use of in vitro and in vivo studies in the
determination of the efficacy of antioxidant products. Specifically, a
pharmacokinetic human clinical intervention trial with PomElla® standardized
pomegranate extract will be described.

Larch Arabinogalactan’s Impact on the Immune System: A
Clinical Perspective
A number of plant extracts have been studied for their ability
to modify immune cells and improve health. One such plant extract,
arabinogalactan, a water soluble polysaccharide from Larix species of trees has been demonstrated to have a
beneficial impact on the immune system. A number of in
vitro trials investigating larch arabinogalactan’s
(LAG) interaction with immune cells such as lymphocytes, NK cell, and monocytes
have demonstrated that LAG has the ability to increase the number and/or
activity of immune cells. More recent in vivo studies
in animals and humans have also demonstrated LAG’s beneficial impact on the
immune system. A review of the in vitro and in vivo data will be
presented along with a discussion on the direction of future immune clinical
trials with LAG.

The Face of Antioxidants Is Changing. New Paradigms for
Developing Antioxidant Products
The concept of focusing on blood markers, rather than
diseases, presents new opportunities for the development of novel and
efficacious Functional Foods and Nutritionals. Diagnostically developed products
can be highly provocative since, without making any disease claims, they can
provide actual, quantifiable measures of quality and potency, and demonstrable
ability to modulate blood markers/targets that are medically associated with
development of chronic conditions.

ATP: The Body Can't Live Without It
PEAK ATP®, a patented dietary supplement ingredient, has been
shown to increase circulatory ATP pools, thereby helping to stimulate blood flow
and delivery of oxygen and nutrients to peripheral sites. Dr. Rapaport will
explain the pathway of ATP (adenosine 5’-triphosphate) and how it provides
energy, reduces fatigue, protects vital organs, provides anti-aging benefits,
and improves muscle strength and recovery. Improving skeletal muscle strength is the Holy Grail of
anti-aging research. Red blood cells and blood plasma ATP pools decline by 50
percent during aging, along with a 50 percent decrease in skeletal muscle
mitochondrial ATP synthesis. Learn why recent evidence suggests that this
significant loss of physiological ATP pools is a leading factor in the aging
process. Dr. Rapaport will also discuss the recent discoveries of specific
families of ATP and adenosine receptors that have been shown to regulate
virtually every physiological function, and why these discoveries are generating
worldwide interest in oral ATP.
