SupplySide West 2008 Grows in Booths and Education Programming

PHOENIX – Virgo Publishing announced the exhibit hall at SupplySide West 2008, Oct. 22 to 24 at The Venetian & Sands in Las Vegas, will be 11% larger than the 2007 event, with more than 1,000 booths. Also, a fifth education track has been added to the three-day education program.

"The largest-ever SupplySide West 2008 has more than 1,000 booths, 90 educational sessions, five in-depth workshops, networking events and more," said Peggy Jackson, director of publishing, Virgo Publishing. "As the world’s largest event for healthy and innovative ingredients, SupplySide is where supply meets demand."

Expanded Education Program
The expanded SupplySide West 2008 education program, sponsored by Cognis Nutrition & Health, has six more sessions than the program offered in 2006. The expansion allowed Virgo Publishing to add sessions focused on foodservice and animal nutrition in addition to the dedicated dietary supplement, food and cosmeceutical tracks.
      
Professionals from Avon, Aveda, Estée Lauder, Bayer HealthCare, GNC, International Dairy Queen & Orange Julius, The Procter & Gamble Company, Cadbury Schweppes, The Hershey Company and many more leading companies are participating on the advisory boards.

Highlights include:
-- A special Featured Presentation by Richard Collins, M.D., The Cooking Cardiologist®
-- Six National Institutes of Health (NIH) botanical research centers will give overviews of current research in three sessions
-- International Food Information Council’s Wendy Reinhardt-Kapsak to discuss IFIC’s current research and initiatives
-- Dr. Vasilios H. Frankos, director of FDA’s Division of Dietary Supplement Programs, to provide an update on recent FDA activity
-- Tufts University’s Jeffrey Blumberg, Ph.D., FACN, CNS, will discuss evidence-based nutrition
-- Jeanette Jacknin, M.D., dermatologist for Dr. Jacknin’s Skincare LLC, will reveal the top 12 natural ingredients for anti-aging
-- Consumer and market trends presentations will be given by Elizabeth Sloan, Ph.D., Packaged Facts’ David Sprinkle, Mintel’s Lynn Dornblaser and Steve French from the Natural Marketing Institute

SupplySide West also features more than 40 vendor-sponsored seminars covering a wide range of innovative ingredients, services and technologies. Three Pre-Conference and Two Post-Conference Workshops Available     
On Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 9 to 11:30am, The Natural Marketing Institute (NMI) will present the “Trends, Opportunities and Interconnections of Sleeplessness, Energy and Stress Workshop.” Speakers in the “Stevia Update: Regulatory Status, Market Potential and Product Development Workshop” on Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 8:30 to 11:30am, will discuss market forecasts, new product introductions and product development issues. The Natural Products Association is presenting “An Advanced Course on the Final FDA GMP Rule for Dietary Supplements“ all day on Tuesday, Oct. 21 and half day on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, two post-conference workshops are available from 8:30 to 11:30am. The “Essential Fatty Acids: Trends and Opportunities” workshop is being developed with GOED and the “Probiotics: Market Trends, Consumer Attitudes & Capitalizing on the Category” workshop is being developed with the International Probiotics Association (IPA). Additional registration is required for each workshop.

Networking Events
SupplySide West also provides a variety networking opportunities, beginning with the SupplySide West Golf Classic, sponsored by Pharmachem Laboratories. The popular tournament takes place Oct. 22 at a new location, The Revere Golf Club, and includes a $25,000 hole-in-one contest.

The networking continues the evening of Oct. 22 from 5 to 6:30pm with the Manufacturers Welcome Reception, sponsored by Pacific Rainbow. Hosted bar and hors d’oeuvres are included; additional registration is required. When the exhibit hall closes on Oct. 23, all SupplySide West participants are invited to attend the Opening Reception, co-sponsored by DSM, Natural Health Science and SourceOne Global Partners. This event attracts thousands of industry executives for continued conversation in an informal atmosphere. During exhibit hours, show participants are invited to showcase their golfing skills at the Virtual Golf booth, sponsored by Stryka Botanics. Three cash prizes will be awarded each day and a $1,000 grand prize will be awarded on Friday, Oct. 24.

The Food Product Design, INSIDER and inside cosmeceuticals Scientific Excellence Awards will be presented in the Virgo Publishing booth at 2pm on Friday, Oct. 24 to exhibitors who have a research-based breakthrough in ingredient/technology science.
