Virgo Announces SupplySide West 2007 Education Program Additions

PHOENIX -- Virgo Publishing announced the latest additions to the Education Program at SupplySide West, Nov. 6 to 8 at The Venetian & The Sands Expo in Las Vegas. The Education Program is sponsored by Cognis Nutrition & Health and features accomplished researchers, top government officials and industry leaders.

Recent additions include:
• Grant E. DuBois, Ph.D., director, ingredient and product sciences, The Coca-Cola Co., will discuss sweetness reception and perception and sweetness technologies.
• Unilever’s global program director – weight management, Peter Haring, will examine opportunities for weight management in food products.
• Julia McNamara of Datamonitor will review leading trends in the cosmeceuticals market.
• Robert S. McCaleb, president and CEO of the Center for Natural Sustainable Enterprise and founder/president of Herb Research Foundation, and Linda Chaé, president and chief formulator of Chaé Organics Inc., will discuss grapefruit seed extract’s promising botanical anti-microbial benefits.
• Coughlin & Associates’ James Coughlin will detail the correlation between coffee and health.
• The Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s executive director, Brian Herr, will stress the importance of working with the industry to increase children’s access to low calorie and nutritious foods and beverages.
• FDA’s Vasilios Frankos, Ph.D., will review the legal aspects of the dietary supplement adverse event reporting legislation from FDA’s perspective.

Other Education Program highlights:
• A special Featured Presentation on the health benefits of omega-3s will be given by Jørn Dyerberg, M.D., chief physician and head, Aalborg Hospital, Aalborg, Denmark
• Senior Research Scientist from Aveda Corp., Timothy Kapsner, will address organic cosmetic standards.
• Upstream liability under the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act to be reviewed by assistant director Richard Cleland and attorney Christine Lee from the FTC.   
• Clinical data supporting potential health benefits of cocoa and chocolate will be presented by Debra Miller, Ph.D., senior nutrition scientist at The Hershey Co. 
• SPINS analysts Chris Chufo and Alison Tirone will review channel dynamics and overall market trends of the natural and organic body care segment.
• Kate Peringer of The Hartman Group will examine key trends in the functional food and beverage market.

This year's expanded education program also features speakers from American Botanical Council, American Herbal Products Association, Canaccord Adams, Council for Responsible Nutrition, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), The Estée Lauder Companies, The Natural Marketing Institute, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), Natural Products Association, Nestlé, Pharmavite, University of California Los Angeles and many more leading organizations.
