PHOENIX -- Virgo Publishing announced the latest additions to the Education Program at SupplySide West, Oct. 18-20 at The Venetian & The Sands Expo in Las Vegas. The Education Program is sponsored by Cognis Nutrition & Health and features accomplished researchers, top government officials and industry leaders.

Consulting Dietician for NBC’s The Biggest Loser to Join Research Chef Panel Rob Brannan, assistant professor of foods and nutrition at Ohio University School of Human and Consumer Sciences, Kurt Stiles, owner of Intelligent Ingredients and Cheryl Forberg, RD, consulting dietitian for NBC’s The Biggest Loser weight loss reality show, will participate in the “Health & Wellness: How Changing Eating patterns Affect Product Development” session with Craig “Skip” Julius, CEC, CCS, CRC, CCP, senior culinologist for Nestlé FoodServices, on Friday, Oct. 20 at 11am.
Understanding & Insight Groups Chief Strategist to Discuss “The Impact of Obesity on Food Product Development” On Friday, Oct. 20 at Noon, Hollis Ashman will share technical solutions that functional food and beverage manufacturers and ingredient suppliers can utilize to help eradicate obesity.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids Health Benefits Presentation to be Given by University of Guelph Professor
The emerging science in the omega-3 fatty acids category continues to grow. Bruce Holub, Ph.D., emeritus professor in the department of human health and nutritional sciences at the University of Guelph, will discuss this current research related to cardiovascular disease, mental health, joint pain and cancer. The session is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 2pm.

-- A special Featured Presentation will be given by Carolyn Moore, Ph.D., R.D., principal scientist at The Beverage Institute for Health and Wellness, which was founded by The Coca-Cola Company. -- Steve French of The Natural Marketing Institute will unveil new data from the NMI consumer database that now features seven years of trends compiled from more than 300,000 consumer responses. -- David Thibodeau, managing director at Canaccord Adams Investment Banking Group, will speak about the rise of both public and private investment in the natural and nutritional products sector, recent mergers and acquisitions, and drivers of the investment community. -- Lynn Dornblaser of Mintel International will examine key trends in the global functional food and beverage market.
