PHOENIX -- Virgo Publishing announced the details of the Education Program to be offered at SupplySide West, Nov. 9 to 11 at The Venetian & The Sands Expo in Las Vegas. Highlights include:
John Hathcock, Ph.D., to Present on Vitamin E Safety
The Council for Responsible Nutrition's vice president of international and scientific affairs will discuss clinical trials, meta-analyses and risk assessment for vitamin E.

Office of Dietary Supplements, National Institutes of Health to Give Three Seminars
Academic and government experts will examine how clinical trials help evaluate the safety and efficacy of dietary supplements. The value of conducting clinical trials; designing trials to test a hypothesis; differentiating between different types of studies (intervention studies vs. observational studies); appropriate selection of test materials and study subjects; interpreting study findings; and funding clinical trials will be discussed. Representatives from the Office of Dietary Supplements, National Institutes of Health (NIH), University of California at Los Angeles, The Wake Forest & Brigham and Women's Center for Botanical Lipids, National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and Center for Food Science and Applied Nutrition at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will present.

Mark Blumenthal to Examine Herb Science and Public Perceptions
Blumenthal will give an update on herb and phytomedicinal clinical trials and analyze corresponding media accounts. Also, the media's tendency to focus on negative outcomes of research and its impact on public perceptions will be critically reviewed and evaluated.


New Consumer Research Released by The Natural Marketing Institute (NMI)
Steve French will unveil newly released data from NMI's annual consumer research study, The NMI Health & Wellness Trends Database (HWTD) - now with seven years of trends based on the results of more than 15,000 consumers.

Virgo's Jon Benninger to Moderate Retailer Panel
Benninger will host a candid conversation with top retailers and discuss the roles and relationships manufacturers and ingredient suppliers have in successful product sales. High-level speakers from Vitamin Shoppe, Nutrition House--Canada's largest retail chain--and Nutrition Cottage will participate in the discussion.

State-of-the-Industry Double Session to Provide Key Updates
Current issues facing ingredient suppliers, natural- and healthy-product manufacturers and marketers will be addressed in a double session moderated by Marc Ullman, partner at Ullman, Shapiro & Ullman. Regulatory issues, government enforcement, GMPs consumer concerns, media attention and more will be addressed by American Herbal Product Association's Michael McGuffin, National Nutritional Food Association's David Seckman and Council for Responsible Nutrition's Steven Mister.
