Virgo Announces Additional Presentations For Focus on the Future

PHOENIX- Virgo Publishing announced two presentations will be added to the agenda of the Focus on the Future Executive Conference and Retreat, Feb. 1 to 4 at the Millennium Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz. Focus on the Future brings industry executives together for interactive high-level seminars, exclusive networking receptions and the unique opportunity to discuss issues and trends that affect the future of the industry.

 

On Wednesday, Feb. 2 the Natural Products Foundation (NPF) will give a presentation following the lunch sponsored by Lonza. NPF Steering Committee members Jon Benninger, Virgo Publishing, Jim Roza, NOW Foods, and Suzanne Shelton, The Shelton Group, will discuss industry self-regulation initiatives, including an effort to clean up non-compliant advertising claims being made for dietary supplements. The NPF is a non-profit 501(c)3 with steering committee members from Bastyr University, GNC, Healthnotes, Natural Alternatives International, New Hope Natural Media, National Nutritional Foods Association, NOW Foods, Oncology Sciences, The Shelton Group, Unigen Pharmaceuticals and Virgo Publishing.

 

Jim Bradford, Anita Mishra and Brian Theil from AOAC and Now Foods’ Roza will give a presentation following the Buckton Scott Nutrition sponsored lunch on Thursday, Feb. 3. Speakers will discuss how good manufacturing practices, increased regulatory interventions and greater government scrutiny are affecting the supplement landscape and the role analytical results with validated test methods will play in determining the quality of dietary supplements. 

 

The Education Program on Feb. 2 and 3, sponsored by Kemin Foods, includes seminars on opportunities and challenges in the athletic performance category, a regulatory update from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), separate panels on building value from a retailer’s and a manufacturer’s perspective, emerging consumer trends data, and future collaboration between health care providers and the supplement industry.

 

Confirmed participants include representatives from U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, EAS, Hi-Health, Mintel, GNC, Herbalife International, FDA, Sprouts, Pharmavite, Ideasphere/Twinlab and many others.
